Allium 'White Giant'

Allium 'White Giant'

In late spring and early summer, the newly introduced Allium 'White Giant' produces beautiful, large, stunning white globes—up to 15cm wide—each containing hundreds of starry white flowers. These globes sit proudly on top of rigid green stems. Bright green basal leaves are also produced, and these will die back after the flowers fade in summer. This allium is at its best when grown in drifts or large clumps in a sunny border, or large container. For best results, grow it in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.

Allium 'White Giant' looks particularly good when planted en masse against a dark backdrop, such as a yew hedge, or the blue-grey wall of a wooden shed. Not only is it attractive to us, but its nectar-rich flowers will be a magnet to bees, butterflies, moths and other pollinators, too. And, as if this is not enough, Allium stipitatum 'White Giant' also makes an impressive cut flower—with the starry globes lasting a long time in water.
