Begonia 'San Francisco'
Begonia boliviensis 'San Francisco' is a lovely trailing begonia, producing masses of large, eye-catching, flowers of bright orange-salmon, throughout summer and autumn. The blooms are held against large, arrow-shaped, neatly serrated, green leaves. They make elegant cascades of vivid, elongated flowers, somewhat resembling fuchsias. It is a perfect plant for windowboxes and hanging baskets, where you can see the blooms from on-high, or for any containers where they can hang beautifully over the sides.
Begonia boliviensis 'San Francisco' has outstanding weather tolerance ā it is heat and drought resistant. Unlike many bedding begonias, it prefers a position in full sun. Partial of full shade are both tolerated, but expect fewer, but larger, flowers and slightly suppressed growth. For best results, your soil should be rich, moist and well-drained. Provide good air circulation around plants, but protect them from strong winds. Even better, deadheading is not necessary with this begonia.
Store your begonia tubers over winter and plant them again next spring to repeat your summer success year after year.
