Crocosmia 'Firestarter'
Ignite your garden with the bonfire of blooms which fizz with fiery energy from Crocosmia 'Firestarter' every summer. Crocosmias (also known as montbretia) are all naturally sparkling with colour and fascinating in form, but these are particularly so, with glowing yellow blooms each edged with lava-red which helps to define the starry flower shape. Upward-facing flowers are eye catching indeed and make them easy to admire as you’re passing by, each stem, growing up to 75cm tall from upward sword-like foliage. The flowering frenzy of Crocosmia 'Firestarter'begins in midsummer and continues into autumn, so you can enjoy the toasty glow of these brilliant blooms during the golden months of the year too – warming when there’s a chill in the air.
Montbretia are incredibly easy to grow and resilient. They’re fully winter hardy and don’t need any fuss – once Crocosmia 'Firestarter' is established in your garden, you will see it return every year and as the bulbs gradually multiply, the clump will grow and the plant as a whole will look even more fabulous every time. They prefer soil which doesn’t become completely dry in summer, they will thrive in sun or partial shade. Crocosmia 'Firestars Firestarter' is a good hardy perennial for planting in groups in a border or on a bank, they can push through rough grass too. When choosing what to combine it with in a herbaceous border, we highly recommend a purple partner, such as Salvia, Geranium or Veronica – the opposite colours just bounce off each other all day long.
