Few plants will create such a talking point with your visitors as this recently introduced echinacea, or coneflower. Echinacea 'Green Twister' was an accidental find by a German flower breeder. At first it was thought to be ‘different’ because of virus disease – lots of plants were destroyed. Eventually, through testing, it was discovered that there was absolutely no virus at all, and that the amazing two-tone colouring is due to a 100% healthy, natural colour break, known as a sport! The bright green edges become more pronounced as the plants get older, and the peak in colour definition will occur after two or three years.
