Papaver 'Pink Ruffles'
Papaver 'Pink Ruffles' is an upright, compact, clump forming oriental poppy with softly hair-covered, dark green leaves and strong, wiry stems. From late spring until summer, these stems carry semi-double, salmon pink, deeply-fringed flowers. The petals have a crepe paper-like texture, while each flower can be as much as 15cm across. In the centre of each bloom is a deep plum-to-black central patch where the seed capsule will develop. This is a highly popular variety and, being a hardy perennial, is ideal for the typical British cottage garden!
Standing ~60cm tall and wide, Papaver orientale 'Pink Ruffles' makes a great specimen plant. For best effect, plant these pastel pink oriental poppies in a sunny bed or border in well-drained soil. At the end of flowering, the leaves turn yellow and fade away. You may get some new green leaves before winter, and these will remain until spring, when the foliage puts on proper growth before next yearās flowers arrive.
