Stachys 'Summer Sweets'
This gorgeous, brand-new form of betony is sure to turn heads. It is a distant cousin to the familiar lamb’s-ears, but it could not be more different to look at! For hundreds of years, betony has been grown for its medicinal uses—but it is also extremely beautiful, and in the past few years much breeding work has been undertaken to achieve the very best ornamental garden plant!
Stachys 'Summer Sweets' is such a new plant you’ll have to search hard to find it. Compact and with an upright habit, it is moderately vigorous with leaves of mid-green. However, it’s the delicious pale rose-pink flowers we want, and these come freely, in densely packed clusters over a long period, between June and September. Ideal for growing in patio pots or in the open border, the flowers will attract bees looking for nectar. However, perhaps you will prefer to enjoy the blooms in a vase instead—this new Stachys variety is next to pots also good for cutting.
Stachys officinalis 'Summer Sweets'® is deciduous, meaning the it dies back in autumn. Cut back stems close to ground level from late February, through to late March.
