Thalictrum delavayi
Thalictrum delavayi is a very pretty perennial. From mid-summer to early autumn, it gives you light, airy clouds of many small, pinky-lilac to white flowers. These flowers are all carried on thin, mauve stems, held above a mound of divided leaves. The blooms of Thalictrum delavayi, which come in their many hundreds, are not big-and-blowsy like a dahlia, but are diaphanous, giving you colour that you can see-through! This dainty-looking yet tough plant—it is perfectly hardy—is ideal for growing in a mixed herbaceous border, as well as in mixed patio containers. It also makes an excellent cut flower.
Thalictrum delavayi, which is also known as Chinese meadow-rue, reaches 100-150cm in height, and grows best on moist soil in partial shade—particularly at home in the dappled shade of trees. It is such a good garden plant, that the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
